About Bruno Gagné
During my career, I maintained control of Workers’ Compensation claims and costs by ensuring that all claims meet the criteria for claim acceptance and was responsible for filing WCB claims, monitoring case progress, as well as disputing claims. I also collaborated with HR Advisors, Managers and Supervisors in order to ensure the availability of modified work for employees returning to work with restrictions.
From 1995 to 2012, I was the Fire Chief & Training Officer for McCain Foods (Canada) in Grand Falls, New Brunswick. I was responsible for the development, implementation and promotion of health and safety programs to assist management in providing a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.
I conducted and participated in workplace health and safety procedures, namely audits and inspections, to ensure all met company standards and fully complied with all relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
I also held the position of Chairman of the Joint Health and Safety Committee, which involved the investigation, response and resolution of health and safety concerns, incidents and accidents.
I provided health and safety orientation services to all new employees. I also arranged specialized safety training, as required, pertaining to subjects such as first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), confined space safety, etc.
I dealt with the appropriate parties concerning internal health and safety audits and advised management on the pertinent requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as on those of other related standards and legislation.
I performed the inspections of all fire-fighting equipment on the complex and dealt with insurance representatives in all aspects of fire prevention. I provided training to members of the fire brigade and specialized fire training (i.e., hot works procedures, fire extinguisher operation, etc.) to employees, as required.
I provided first aid and CPR training to approximately 250 employees every year and organized and supervised the emergency evacuation procedures.
In 2008, I opened the Workplace Safety School of New Brunswick Inc., a training facility where I offer training on workplace safety aspects to the general public, industries, cities, villages, fire departments and contractors.
